Records Section

The Records Bureau oversees the storage and retrieval of police reports. Personnel enter pertinent data from reports into law enforcement databases maintained at the local, state and national levels, conduct initial computer checks on arrested individuals, process documents necessary to release a subject from the Beverly Hills jail facility and distribute report copies to authorized Department personnel. Reports remain in the Records Bureau until they are legally authorized for destruction.

The Report Writing Room is used by officers to complete reports, make telephone follow-ups and for sergeants to schedule deployments. Reports that do not require follow-ups are completed by the officer in the field.

Patrol officers assemble in the roll call room prior to the start of their shift and are briefed on daily activities, given crime summaries, Special Watch information and their assignments for the upcoming shift. In addition, officers may view training tapes, receive additional training conducted by the supervisor and are informed of Department policy or procedure changes.

The Traffic Bureau is responsible for vehicle and pedestrian traffic law enforcement and accident investigation. Officers monitor specific sites with high accident rates, address traffic related complaints (such as speeding in residential areas) and conduct special enforcement in high pedestrian traffic areas and locations adjacent to the schools.

Watch Commander
Staffed around the clock by a patrol lieutenant or sergeant, the Watch Commander oversees the field operations and ancillary functions of the Police Department. Communications equipment, visual and field status monitors, an Internet-connected computer and reference materials are available to assist the watch commander in his duties
