The City adopted Ordinance 11-O-2602 regarding medical use in Beverly Hills on January 11, 2011, and it went into effect February 11, 2011.
The medical use ordinance allows continued operation of existing, legal medical uses but property owners wishing to add or expand medical use are required to do one of the following:
1. Medical Overlay Zone
Application of the medical use overlay zone (refer to Section 13 of the ordinance) to a specific property would be reviewed by the Planning Commission and approved by the City Council with findings that the medical use would not have negative impacts and would provide a public benefit.
The medical use ordinance includes an exception (Section 7 of the ordinance) for existing buildings that already have legal medical use to convert up to 6,000 square feet of commercial office use to medical use if certain conditions are met.
Both the medical use overlay zone and the exception require certain parking requirements to be met and include prohibitions and restrictions on ground floor medical use.
