Public Art Fund Commission

The first work of art ever commissioned by the City of Beverly Hills Fine Art Commission, the piece was dedicated on September 19, 2007. Hymn of Life: Tulips is the first public outdoor sculpture in the United States by this internationally renowned artist. Born in Nagano Prefecture, Japan in 1929, Kusama started to paint using dots and nets as motifs at age ten. Her body of work includes paintings, sculptures, and mixed-media installations. Kusama's outdoor sculptures can be found in Japan, Spain, and France. Hymn of Life: Tulips depicts three large tulips measuring ten feet high by twenty feet in diameter and reflects Kusama's whimsical and complex style.
