September 2017 Traffic Impacts

North Santa Monica Boulevard Reconstruction Project

Traffic Impacts – Two lanes of traffic open in each direction

Construction Activity

  • Installation of underground utilities including storm drain laterals, electrical work and traffic signal conduits
  • Construction of curbs and gutters, curb ramps, driveways, cross-gutters,  irrigation, catch basins, and traffic signal foundations
  • Construction of raised crosswalk across Linden Dr. Through access to and from N. Santa Monica Blvd. to Linden Dr. is closed from 9/18 - 9/29.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.​, with occasional Saturdays from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. If you have any questions, please call the project helpline at 424 339-9033. Again, thank you for your patience! 

 Metro Purple Line Extension Project 

Wilshire/La Cienega Station:


Wilshire Boulevard and La Cienega Boulevard intersection to be closed the weekend of 10/6-10/9, the third of seventeen consecutive closures for decking construction

COBH Construction Alert – Friday 10/6 – Monday 10/9

Wilshire Boulevard will be fully closed off between La Cienega Boulevard and San Vicente Boulevard, and La Cienega will be closed from Gregory Way to Clifton Way due to decking construction for the Metro Purple line extension starting Friday, October 6 at 8pm, and re-opening on Monday, October 9 at 6am.

Local access will be maintained for businesses and residents outside the work zone, while pedestrian access will be maintained with sidewalk and crosswalk detours on La Cienega Boulevard and Wilshire Boulevard.

Wilshire Boulevard will be closed off entirely for decking and completion of piling during 17 weekends starting September 8 through February 2018.  


What is Decking?

Decking is temporary roadway installed during construction that will allow for station construction underneath traffic.

What is Piling?

Piling, now underway, is the process of installing steel beams to structurally support the decking and station construction. The piling on the south side of Wilshire Boulevard is complete and the north side of Wilshire Boulevard is underway.

Work Schedule, Detours and Access During Weekend Closures*

  • Full street closures for 17 weekends starting September 8, 2017
  • Work will be continuous from Friday at 8:00 pm until Monday at 7:00 am
  • No work will take place on major holiday weekends, which include Rosh Hashanah (Sept. 23 - 24), Yom Kippur (Sept. 30 - Oct. 1), Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and President's Day

  • Detours are anticipated on La Cienega Boulevard between Olympic Boulevard and Third Street and on Wilshire Boulevard between San Vicente Boulevard and Doheny Drive with traffic officer support (See Phase 1, 2 and 3 Detour Maps)
  • Local access will be maintained for businesses and residents throughout the work zone
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained with sidewalk and crosswalk detours on La Cienega Boulevard and Wilshire Boulevard
  • Bus Stops

    • The 20 and 720 buses remain relocated to eastbound at Wilshire Boulevard near Stanley Drive and westbound at Wilshire Boulevard near San Vicente Boulevard
    • The 105 and 705 buses are relocated for the next eight to ten months to northbound La Cienega Boulevard and Gregory Way

2) Potholing, Piling, Instrumentation & Steel Deliveries

Pot holing, work zone preparation, and piling on the north side of Wilshire Boulevard between La Cienega Boulevard and San Vicente Boulevard.  Work hours are 7am – 4pm, 9pm – 6am, Monday-Friday through October 2017.

Closures and Detours

    • North Gale Drive at Wilshire Boulevard will be closed through October 2017
    • Sidewalk diversion north side of Wilshire Boulevard between Gale Drive and Hamilton Drive.
    • Sidewalk closure between Gale Drive and San Vicente Boulevard. Pedestrian detour signage is in place and access to 8383 Wilshire Boulevard will be maintained
    • Sidewalk closure between Hamilton Drive and La Cienega Boulevard 
    • Northbound La Cienega Boulevard will be reduced to two lanes between Gregory Way and just north of Wilshire Boulevard. K-rail will be installed north of Wilshire Boulevard in front of the staging yard, to separate the work zone from traffic.
    • Steel deliveries on La Cienega Boulevard will require temporary traffic closures managed by flaggers on La Cienega Boulevard in both directions, Tuesday–Wednesday, approximately 10am – 4pm

Metro Access

Metro bus stops for 720/20 have been relocated to Wilshire Boulevard/Stanley Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard /La Jolla Avenue Metro buses will post stop relocations and announce relocations and detours to riders.

Rodeo Station:

1) Abatement of Non-Recyclable Construction Material Work at 9430 Wilshire Boulevard

Beginning Thursday, August 10th, and continuing daily from 8am to 6pm through October 2017 (except weekends and holidays), Metro contractors will be performing abatement of non-recyclable construction material work at 9430 Wilshire Boulevard (former Ace Gallery) located on the southwest corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Reeves Drive in the City of Beverly Hills. 

This work complies with the legal requirements for the removal of waste at any building prior to demolition activities. This operation requires no lane closures. Work will be completed within the building.

Work Dates and Hours

  • Work begins Thursday, August 10th and is anticipated to last through October 2017
  • Hours: 8am to 6pm, Monday through Friday. No work on weekends

2) Southern California Edison (SCE) Utility Civil Work - Wilshire Bl/El Camino Drive and Crescent Drive

The Purple Line Extension Subway Project, Section 2, will begin pre-construction work activities in the City of Beverly Hills beginning September 5, 2017 for the future Wilshire/Rodeo station which will be located on the southwest corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Reeves Drive.

Pre-construction includes advanced relocation of utility lines prior to station construction. SCE civil work will include installation of traffic control devices, median removal, excavation and shoring, placement of temporary trench plates, utility construction, and surface restoration.   • September 5th through Fall 2017, 9am - 4pm, Monday thru Friday & 10am - 6pm, Sunday 


  • Temporary lane reductions on Wilshire Boulevard between El Camino Drive and Crescent Drive
  • Lane closures on South Reeves Drive, south of Wilshire Boulevard
  • Turn restrictions from Wilshire Boulevard to Canon Drive, Beverly Drive and South Reeves Drive
