Wilshire/Rodeo Station

Work to prepare utility relocation work area begins.

Preparation for the next stage of utility relocation work on Wilshire Boulevard will start on Monday, July 16. The process of installing the k-rail, sound barriers and graphics will take place over the course of several days. You may see k-rail and fencing being assembled for a few days before the graphics are added and the construction activity begins.

The construction work schedule for these activities is listed below. Work will take place on Monday, July 16, unless otherwise noted.

  • Marking the new striping layout (work hours: 3 am to 6 am)*
  • Removing existing striping and restriping (work hours: 9 am to 4 pm)*
  • Installing k-rails, fence panels and 8-foot tall sidewalk panels (Starts after other work is completed, Tuesday, July 17, 8 am to 6 pm)* These barriers are needed to create a dedicated work area for ongoing utility work, and protect businesses and pedestrians.

Wilshire Boulevard between Beverly Drive and N. Crescent Drive will be reduced to two lanes in each direction. Left turns from Wilshire may be restricted. Northbound traffic on Reeves will be detoured at Charleville. Detour signage will be posted, and flaggers will be on site in some locations during work hours to assist with detours and pedestrian crossing.

Once the new traffic configurations are in place, utility relocation work will take place behind the barriers. This work will occur Monday through Friday, 7 am to 7 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 6 pm.* Wilshire Boulevard will be reduced to two lanes in each direction at all times.

Building abatement and demolition starts July 16.

Demolition of 9430 Wilshire Boulevard (the former Ace Gallery) and installation of the noise barrier around the property is scheduled to begin Monday, July 16. The initial work will include installing fencing and scaffolding along Wilshire and Reeves Drive, as well as an 8-foot fence along the perimeter of the property, including the alley behind the building. Abatement is scheduled to take place from July 16 to 30 and then demolition will begin once abatement is completed.

A portion of the park at 125 S. Reeves Drive will be closed and access will be restricted. Once the demolition is complete and sound walls have been installed, the site will be used as a construction staging area.

Soil sampling and sewer inspection work continues.

Work to sample soil and examine the geology of the area will continue on Wilshire Boulevard Monday through Friday 9 am to 4 pm and 8 pm to 6 am.* Work in the area is expected to last through the end of July.* During work hours one lane on eastbound Wilshire Boulevard will be closed between Spalding Drive and Rexford Drive.

Construction crews are using video cameras to inspect sewer lines in the area. This work is expected to be completed by Wednesday, July 18.* Work hours are Monday through Friday from 8 pm to 6 am. Some lane closures will be required on the north side of Wilshire Boulevard between Beverly and Crescent.

*Due to the dynamic nature of construction the schedule and activities may vary.
