LATEST NEWS! On May 7 the Beverly Hills City Council approved the bid for the new Roxbury Park Community Center. Fencing goes up around the existing Roxbury Community Center on Thursday, May 16. The Community Center, south parking lot and basketball courts will be fenced off. All logistical details are located in the FAQ section, below.

The new Roxbury Park Community Center is beginning to take shape. Based on input from park users, neighbors and visitors, the new Community Center has many innovative features and modern improvements. The new facility is envisioned as a light-filled space with lots of glass so that the park, in essence, can come inside. It will have an entire suite dedicated to the needs of seniors, a larger multipurpose room to provide for community gatherings, teen dances and cultural programs, and a larger library annex.

Both interior and exterior spaces will be improved, including the creation of an indoor-outdoor courtyard where patrons can enjoy park views. New playground equipment will be installed, the park restroom will be rebuilt and athletic field drainage issues will be addressed.  With new technologies and sustainability measures such as solar panels on the roof, we are ensuring a Community Center that will be enjoyed for years to come. 

Did you know? Roxbury Park serves about 4,560 meals annually to seniors in need, provides 20 young children with an outstanding preschool experience, hosts eight specialty youth camps each spring, winter and summer break, is home to both the popular Beverly Hills teen and senior dances and offers over 70 enrichment classes every year to all ages.

FAQs

When will ground be broken?

Fences go up around the existing Community Center, south parking lot and basketball courts on May 16, 2013. An official groundbreaking ceremony is anticipated in June 2013.

When will construction occur?

Construction will only occur between the hours and 8 am and 6 pm on weekdays. The project is expected to last about a year.

During construction, what will happen to all the events and programs that occur at Roxbury?

The Beverly Hills Community Services Department is proud that it’s been able to relocate all Roxbury programming and staff during the construction. Many programs will be temporarily relocated to La Cienega Park.

What's still open at Roxbury Park?

The Roxbury Park administrative office has moved--with a reduced staff-to the Clubhouse building just north of the construction site/Community Center. The hours of the administrative office are 8 am - noon and 1 pm - 4 pm Monday-Friday.

The athletic fields and field restrooms will remain open for the time being. In late fall 2013 a second phases of the project will begin, with improvements to the athletic field, field restrooms and playground.

Picnic tables are still available for use on a first-come, first-served basis, or for rentals.

The preschool and tennis courts remain open, however because the construction fence goes right to the edge of the tennis court, some players might be bothered by the noise and dust from the construction.

The Roxbury Community Center project is just one way The City of Beverly Hills is improving its parks. The California Park and Recreation Society's slogan is "Parks Make Life Better." Here in Beverly Hills we're also making parks better. The City is supporting the massive Beverly Gardens restoration project, outdoor fitness equipment was recently installed at La Cienega Park, significant recent improvements have been implemented at the La Cienega Recreation Center, an enhanced outdoor seating and lounge area at The Beverly Hills Tennis Center was introduced, a complete makeover for Hamel Park in underway, improvements to the Formal Gardens at Greystone Park are complete and public art restoration is happening throughout the City's open spaces. The Community Services Department, under the guidance of the City Council, also continues to explore possible locations for a future dog park in Beverly Hills.
