Join the City of Beverly Hills and the Community Services Department for a series of events throughout the month celebrating and recognizing the achievements and contributions of Jewish Americans!


May 1-31, 2023
Beverly Hills Public Library Display

Library Logo Come to the Beverly Hills Public Library and enjoy a selection of books and audiovisual items on display celebrating influential and prominent Jewish Americans as well as compelling and interesting stories about Jewish life in America.  You'll also find e-resource links online at, and a window display in the Library's Rexford lobby showcasing Jewish Americans with captivating visual elements.

Rugelach Contest and Klezmer Music

ENTER the Rugelach Baking Contest and join us at the Farmers' Market on Sunday, May 14 from 9am-1pm where you can enjoy Klezmer music from Mostly Kosher and find out who won the Rugalach Contest at the Civic and Third Street stage at 12 noon, when winners will be announced.

Rugelach Baking Contest is open to amateur bakers only and applications to enter must be submitted by Sunday, May 7 to be eligible.  The contest is open to the first 10 entries.  Contestants must bring their Rugelach entries to the Farmers' Market Sunday, May 14 at 9am to prepare for judging.

"Shalom Stories" - Storytime with Jessica Honor Carleton

Join us for special Storytime with storyteller, actress and writer, Jessica Honor Carleton who is excited to share stories from her culture and celebrate Jewish storytelling with "Shalom Stories, a joyful, silly program that will be fun for everyone!   Bring the whole family, friends and neighbors! 

Carleton has been honored to win five National Daytime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Performer in a Children's Series (2014). She's been storytelling professionally for over 20 years, performing at festivals and conferences around the country. Carleton is currently a writer for Sesame Street, and was a staff writer on Disney Junior's hit show, Puppy Dog Pals. Performance TV credits include Atypical and Chicago Fire. A Chicago native, Carleton's theatre credits include The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter at Steppenwolf Theatre. Carleton is a graduate of Northwestern University in theatre and creative writing for the media.

Join us for a free speakers series, entitled Critical Conversations: The Jewish Contributions to the American Fabric of Life, where five dynamic leaders will discuss and celebrate the Jewish contributions in all aspects of American life, including arts and culture, politics, media and entertainment, philanthropy, the tech industry and science and medicine.
