Beverly Hills City Council's Adopted Positions on Three Upcoming Ballot Initiatives

The Beverly Hills City Council has adopted positions regarding two propositions and one measure appearing on the general election ballot on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 as they will have an impact on the community. The summaries below are provided for informational purposes only.

Proposition 6
City Position: Support
Proposition 6 repeals a 2017 transportation law's taxes and fees designated for road repairs and public transportation. Fuel and vehicle taxes recently passed by the Legislature would be eliminated. The Legislature would be required to get a majority of voters to approve new or increased state fuel and vehicle taxes in the future.

Proposition 10
City Position: Support
Proposition 10 repeals state law that currently restricts the scope of rent control policies that cities and other local jurisdictions may impose on residential property.

Measure W
City Position: Support

Measure W authorizes the Los Angeles County Flood Control District  to levy a parcel tax within the District, which encompasses cities and incorporated areas of Los Angeles County at the rate of $0.025 (2.5 cents) per square foot of impermeable area such as buildings, driveways, concrete and other hardscaped areas. The parcel tax will be levied beginning Fiscal Year 2019-20 and will continue indefinitely and is estimated to generate approximately $300 million annually. Proceeds from the Tax shall be used to fund projects and programs consistent with the expenditure plan as stated in the related ordinance, which include increasing stormwater capture and reducing urban runoff pollution which may increase water supply and improve water quality.

The deadline to register or re-register to vote is Monday, October 22, 2018. Please remember to check your voter registration status ahead of time to avoid any surprises on Election Day or during the vote by mail window.

If the voter registration deadline has passed, you can still conditionally register to vote and cast a provisional ballot in person at your County Elections Office at any time up to and including Election Day.
